Game Releases this Week: Uncharted 4, Doom & More

We take a look at what games are hitting local stores and online retailers this week.

If you’re looking for a white-knuckle adventure, some demon-hunting, or a portable tale of epic proportions, this week’s game releases will deliver on all those things, and a little more.

Here are our picks for the games releasing 9-13 May 2016:

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Release date: 10 May 2016 (PS4)

The Uncharted series needs little to no introduction at this point. After three best-selling games and numerous Game of the Year awards, the franchise is set to get its fourth long-awaited instalment this week. A Thief’s End sees our favourite (now retired) treasure hunter being lured back into the world of thievery by his estranged brother, who’s after a score that both can’t refuse. The game looks absolutely spectacular in motion, full of explosions, close-calls, gunfights, and incredible platforming moments, and it’s also sure to be an emotional and memorable final chapter for Mr. Nathan Drake and Co.

Release date: 10 May 2016 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

It’s been way too long since we’ve taken it upon ourselves to rid the virtual world of grotesque demons via gruesome chainsaw kills, but thankfully Bethesda will give us a chance to raise hell in the reimagined version of the id Software classic. This new edition comes with the same quality shooting we’ve come to love since the 90s, but with outstanding gore-filled visuals and new gameplay mechanics. Players will be able to carve up monsters a variety of ways, and the new melee finishing moves, like head-crushing and jaw-removals, will add some extra juiciness to the game.

MegaTagmension Blanc + Neptune VS Zombies

Release date: 13 May 2016 (Vita)

The Vita has been overlooked in terms of releases in the past months, but MegaTagmension Blanc + Neptune VS Zombies arrives this week to ignite the portable platform. The game is a shortish visual novel with action interludes that feature some beat ’em up gameplay. This title can only be recommended to those who have already polished these off and are familiar with the franchise’s other titles. Everyone else should just shamble past.
