The horror genre is really in its purple patch at the moment; and Together is another great addition for fans to indulge in, delivering a funny, bone-chilling, and uncomfortable film that explores the depths of codependency.

Firstly, the less you know about it, the better, and going in blind will arguably be the best way to experience it. However, without any spoilers, the film itself stars Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple who find themselves at a crossroads when they move to the countryside, only to put their relationship under the microscope. With tensions already flaring between the two, a nightmarish encounter with a mysterious, unnatural force threatens to corrupt their lives, their love, and their flesh.

Now, there’s no easy way of putting this: Together is not an easy watch and not for the faint of heart, but body-horror fans are in for a treat. Like two separate halves of the same entity, Together forces Franco and Brie towards one another in more ways than one, and it makes for some wince-worthy moments. Thankfully, while most body horrors tend to repulse even the most concrete-hardened horror fan, the levity and humour of Franco and Brie keep a somehwat humorous tone beneath the madness.

While the inevitable body-altering parts of the film are the obvious drawcard, the film actually shines in its quieter bits when the tension and scares come in more unique ways, with some truly interesting shots and set-ups that haven’t been seen in many horror films.

Together also doesn’t offer that large a cast or setting, and instead sticks to 3 or 4 key locations and characters, which actually bodes well for the movie as it heavily focuses on each character’s descent into the supernatural. It’s smaller, which often works best for films of this nature.

Ultimately, Together is a must-watch for fans of the genre and even those looking for the most unique and surreal take on codependent relationships.

I am not always a fan of horror, but this felt like more of a play on modern relationships and co-dependency a major theme of the movie.

I have not watched a horror movie in many years. This movie however came at just the right time for me and there were a good few lessons. Superblessed with gratitude for everyone involved to getting us to watch the premiere.
