Toyota Launches “Most Powerful” Land Cruiser Ever — Here’s What it Costs in SA

Toyota has dropped a ton of new details for its incoming flagship Land Cruiser 300, with the new 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol hybrid models. The latest evolution of the Land Cruiser combines electrified performance with the strength and refinement known from the brand.

The introduction of the hybrid models expands the South African Land Cruiser 300 range, joining the 3.3-litre diesel derivatives and giving customers greater choice. Available now in premium ZX specification and later this year in adventure-focused GR-S grade, the new hybrid models retain the Land Cruiser’s full-size SUV capability while embracing Toyota’s multi-pathway approach to lower-emission mobility.

The updated line-up also sees the ZX offered exclusively with the new hybrid powertrain, while the GX-R and GR-S diesel derivatives continue in the range. At the heart of the new models is a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine paired with Toyota’s compact HEV system. Producing 341 kW and 790 Nm (total output) through a 10-speed automatic transmission, the system delivers smooth, immediate acceleration and effortless performance on-road while preserving the Land Cruiser’s renowned off-road capability.

Despite the additional power, the HEV powertrain boasts better fuel consumption of 10 l/100 km compared with equivalent ICE models. The Land Cruiser 300 HEV also features a waterproof AC inverter beneath the centre console, providing an external power supply of up to 1500W. This allows users to power various devices or serve as an emergency power source in the event of a disaster.

The electrified powertrain is complemented by subtle updates across the range. Customers will benefit from a refreshed exterior colour palette, including the introduction of Magnetite Black and Classic White, together with revised availability of several existing colours across the GX-R, ZX and GR-S derivatives. Interior trim combinations have also been refined, further enhancing the premium appeal of the cabin.
