In this crazy, chaotic and beautiful time of year when the game release schedule heats up ahead of the holidays, it can be tough trying to keep track of all the big launches. Amongst the massive-name franchises, we’ve highlighted three games not to let slip under the radar.

Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen

2024’s Dragon’s Dogma 2 was a fantastic (and long-awaited) entry into Capcom’s fantasy RPG franchise, improving upon the gameplay mechanics and world. Much like the first game, which received a Dark Arisen edition, the sequel has now been given an improved version of the game, with a whole bunch of extras and fine-tunings.

Is it any good?: If you’re a Dragon’s Dogma 2 fan, you know what to expect here, but thankfully, the new 20-hour campaign adds a whole new mix of quests and beasts to slay that feel fresh and exciting amidst the already-excellent base game. The new area also throws its own batch of curveballs, with the snow-covered region of Norgan forcing you to seek out thermal armour, shelter, and new traversal tools like climbing hooks and ladders. Adding these elements into the game makes it feel a lot more comprehensive, and if you’ve had an inkling to dive into the Dragon’s Dogma 2 world, this is the definitive edition worth grabbing. And furthermore, if you just want more DD2, it’s worth the price alone.

Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition

Another beefed-up edition of a previously released game has launched this October, with the Complete Edition of Suckerpunch’s feudel Japan, sword-slashing action game being unleashed. While some may not think Ghost of Yotei lived up to the outrageously high standard set by Ghost of Tsushima, it’s still a stellar game nonetheless. Now with extra content, it’s an easy sell.

Is it any good? I’m a big fan of Ghost of Yotei, so if you didn’t play the original and want an even bigger story to dive into, it’s a must-buy in my opinion. Now, you get a sizable expansion, Echoes of Sekigahara, which is a surprisingly dense and brilliant addition to the campaign in the base game. It really opens up the story of Atsu and some other key playable characters even further, and, of course, introduces some charismatic baddies to chop down.

The Blood of Dawnwalker

Fans of The Witcher 3 will want to take a look into this action-RPG. The Blood of Dawnwalker is an open-world dark fantasy set in 14th-century Europe that sees you play as Coen, human by day and vampire by night, making an interesting dual-gameplay scenario for players to navigate. You have to master sword fighting, vampiric abilities, and make some super difficult choices as you pick your path and shape how your adventure plays out.

Is it any good? It’s hard not to feel like The Blood of the Dawnwalker is on the cusp of brilliance. It’s got a relentlessly compelling story, which actually becomes the best part of the game, and it fully lives up to the hype of being player-driven, where your decisions evolve how the finale plays out. The combat is fun but can feel a little clunky against multiple enemies, and some of the quests can feel a little run-of-the-mill. But as for the core part of the game, it’s fantastic. It may have a lot of competition from other entries in the genre, but it’s a solid entry worth checking out.
