The Best Movies & Shows to Watch in August
What are the hottest movies and TV shows to keep on your radar this August?
August is set to deliver some exciting films and TV shows to keep the quality content of 2025 rolling in! From long-awaited horror entries to one of the most iconic sci-fi franchies making its jump to the small-screen, here are the movies and shows to catch this month:
Freakier Friday
Release date: 8 August
Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, the first Freaky Friday starring Lindsey Lohan was a fun and endearing remake of a classic, which delivered an interesting spin on the body-swap comedy genre. The sequel should mix things up a little more with both characters (Lohan and Jamie-Lee Curtis) now being a fair bit older and in very different places in their respective lives.
Weapons
Release date: 8 August 2025
Weapons is the next horror film from Zach Cregger, who helmed the incredible Barbarian (seriously, give it a watch). There’s a lot of mystery surrounding the movie, which follows the unusual case of seventeen children from the same classroom who mysteriously run out of their homes towards an unknown target in the middle of the night, all going missing with no reason why. Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Cary Christopher, and Benedict Wong all star.
Nobody 2
Release date: 15 August 2025
One of the sleeper hits of 2021 was that of Nobody. The action-comedy starred Bob Odenkirk as Hutch, a former hitman seeking a quiet life, who was thrust back into the world of violence despite his reluctance. Well, the sequel is on its way, as Nobody 2 hits cinemas this August, throwing Hutch back into action to take down a syndicate while on vacation.
Together
Release date: 15 August 2025
2025 has already been delivering some standout entries when it comes to the horror genre, and Together is already garnering a lot of buzz from fright-aficionados. The film itself stars Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple who find themselves at a crossroads when they move to the countryside, only to put their relationship under the microscope. With tensions already flaring between the two, a nightmarish encounter with a mysterious, unnatural force threatens to corrupt their lives, their love, and their flesh.
Alien: Earth
Release date: First episode airs 12 August 2025 (FX on Hulu)
With the success and resurgence of the Alien franchise, thanks to Alien: Romulus, the Alien TV show is finally making its appearance in August. It’s set after the events of Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, but before the first Alien film. It picks up when a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, which sees Wendy, an android with human-like consciousness, along with a ragtag group of tactical soldiers, make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat.
