Pinotage Gin in SA is Now a Thing
Celebrate the end of the alcohol ban with a 2020 harvest Pinotage stained gin now.
If you’ve been missing indulging in a delicious G&T during the lockdown then we’ve found the perfect way for you to celebrate the move to level 3 lockdown and the end of the prohibition on alcohol in South Africa. Six Dogs Distillery has just announced the launch of its 2020 harvest Pinotage Stained Gin and it’s just what you need to lift your spirits during the lockdown.
The lovechild of Six Dogs Gin and a neighbouring farm’s recently harvested Pinotage grapes, this exciting locally distilled gin is a must-have for the winter season. Six Dogs launched the first iteration of the Pinotage Stained Gin back in winter 2019, disrupting the local gin market with its infusion of the proudly South African cultivar. Now, this innovative spirit is back for another season of greatness in 2020. Although produced only in limited quantity in 2019, the product was fully sold out even before the bottles had been labelled.
Like the wine variant, Six Dogs Pinotage Stained is deep in colour and bold in flavour with notes of black cherry, plum, black-currant and some tannin. While each year’s grapes bring unique (albeit subtle) variants in taste, the juniper-forward flavour is consistent, as is the quality and care that goes into crafting Six Dogs Gin.
The Six Dogs Distillery is located near Worcester, where many estates produce South Africa’s signature grape variety. The grapes of the 2020 vintage come from a neighbouring wine farmer and members of the Six Dogs team helped with the selection and harvesting process in late January.
Previously produced as a seasonal Gin, Six Dogs Pinotage Stained now sits firmly beside its predecessors, Six Dogs Karoo and Six Dogs Blue, as an all-year-round offering in the range.
Purchase Six Dogs Pinotage Stained gin is now available at selected retailers and eCommerce stores, speciality liquor stores and directly through Six Dogs at R450 per bottle.
