September has lined up to be an absolute cracker of a month for game releases, seeing some notable titles seeing the light of day, including a long-awaited return of the Test Drive franchise, an alien-stomping sequel, and some revamped editions of older classics. Here are the games to check out this September:

Astro Bot

Release date: 6 September 2024 (PS5)

Anyone who owns a PS5 has undoubtedly played Astro’s Playroom, which was a tech demo, of sorts, pre-loaded onto all PS5s and allowed you to experience a lighthearted platformer that showed off the capabilities of the DualSense controller. Well, Astro now has a fully-fledged game in the form of Astro Bot, which expands on the world and abilities of Astro. If you’re a fun of colourful 3D platformers, you’ll want to check this one out.

NBA 2K25

Release date: 3 September 2024 (Xbox Series X/S | PS5 | Xbox One | PS4 | Switch | PC)

Basketball fans will be ecstatic to know that the next instalment in 2K Sports’ beloved NBA franchise is here, bringing new improvements to gameplay, sharper visuals, and updates to the fan-favourite modes. 2K has also introduced ProPLAY, which uses animations taken directly from NBA game film to provide players with the most realistic, true-to-the-game product.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2

Release date: 9 September 2024 (Xbox Series X/S | PS5 | PC)

The underappreciated gem that was the first Space Marine game is getting a sequel this September, as Focus Entertainment and Saber Interactive will drop Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. If you want to feel like the ultimate alien-destroying badass, this third-person action title is that exact fix. Space Marine 2 will allow you to explore iconic Warhammer lore environments and unleash deadly abilities and an arsenal of devastating weaponry.

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown

Release date: 12 September 2024 (Xbox Series X/S | PS5 | PC)

The Test Drive franchise has been MIA for a little while, but it’s back with Solar Crown. Leaning into the open-world massively multiplayer racing game genre, the game allows you to immerse yourself in a luxury driving experience: purchase cars directly from dealerships, customise them in workshops, display them in the garage of your Solar Hotel suite, and of course, race them. Each car offers a unique driving experience and meticulous detail is given to each car model and feel, so this really is up the ally of any petrol-head gamer.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster

Release date: 19 September 2024 (Xbox Series X/S | PS5 | PC)

The original Dead Rising brought the first real zombie-chaos simulator to gamers, and the game is getting another run in the form of the Deluxe Remaster. This edition is a full graphical overhaul of the first game, and has been fully voiced, supports auto-saves, and has various other quality-of-life features.

Epic Mickey: Rebrushed

Release date: 24 September 2024 (Xbox Series X/S | PS5 | Xbox One | PS4 | Switch | PC)

One of the underrated platformers of yesteryear was Epic Mickey, a Mickey Mouse-starring adventure that kind of fell by the wayside despite some positive reviews. It’s got a new coat of pain in the form of Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, as you encounter various iconic characters like Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Walt Disney’s first creation, and travel between lands in Wasteland. Collect virtual Disney pins, tackle creative challenges, and uncover secrets, all while exploring classic platforming levels inspired by animated films and shorts.
