This Overlooked British Horror Film Deserves a Watch
Alberto Corredor’s horror flick isn’t perfect, but it’s well worth checking out.
There have been some truly delightful horror movies in recent times, so much so that some lesser-budget entries slip under the radar. Baghead is one of those movies, with a creepy and interesting set-up, that is well worth a watch despite some inconsistent moments.
Without any spoilers, Baghead follows a young woman (played by Freya Allan of The Witcher) who inherits an old, run-down bar from her estranged father after his mysterious death. However, as she comes to learn, the building comes with a not-so-friendly tenant in the basement: a shapeshifting creature that can bring people back from the dead.
Baghead‘s initial premise is an enticing and spooky one in isolation, and the film gives some background and lore into what this creature is and where it came from, but the real highlight is the atmosphere of the setting and the uneasiness with bringing back loved ones from beyond the grave, along with some twists and turns along the way.
It’s a great horror flick that does have some iffy CGI and doesn’t fully capitalise on its premise and rules, but it’s also jam-packed with some eerie cinematography, some great practical effects, a spooky-as-hell location, and some great acting.
