While details are slim on Rugby 15, some information regarding the box art and cover stars for each region is slowly starting to slip out.

After the European and South African covers were revealed, the edition for Australia and New Zealand has now been leaked.

The official channels of information on the game are yet to release anything, but Stade Français and former Wallaby winger Digby Ioane posted the cover to Instagram, which features him, alongside Toulon’s Drew Mitchell and Toulouse’s Luke McAllister, who have played for Australia and the All Blacks respectively.

Rugby 15 is currently in development for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, PS Vita and PC, and will be released on 14 November 2014.

The game will be the first next generation Rugby title from the Canadian-based studio, which previously created Rugby World Cup 2011 and Rugby 08.

Check out the full box art below, as well as a trailer for the game and a developer diary on the commentary talent to feature in Rugby 15.

So I see they have only really gone with players that have European relevance. I know the whole licensing issue but surely they could be in international kits. Not to take anything away from Ioane, Mitchell or McAllister.

The problem is the international kits go with the respective unions (NZRU and ARU), which they didn’t get licensed for the game. Not sure what the complications are, perhaps too expensive. Rumour is that the customisation options are going to be pretty deep, so people could make the international kits as they exist, although it will take A LOT of time.

I see but what competitions do you play then? They obviously have the correct players names? Why don’t the rugby unions buy into this series like the football associations have with pes and FIFA?

The licensed competitions include the French Top 14, Aviva Premiership in England, and Pro D2 (second division in France) and Pro 12 ( Irish, Italian, Scottish and Welsh sides). Hopefully there is a tournament-maker mode, where you can create your own one, but time will tell…

As for the unions not backing it, I think the rugby unions in SA and in some other countries are just oblivious to these games and negotiating the licensing deals is just a nightmare for the developers. I know comms has broken down with Saru in the past with other rugby games, so perhaps its the same problem. Not enough time, not enough money, not enough patience, unfortunately. Hopefully this game smashes down the door and they take notice next time around.
