Hendrick’s Launches Limited Release Floral Gin, Midsummer Solstice [Review]

Hendrick’s Midsummer Solstice is the epitome of springtime.

There’s no better way to welcome warm weather than with a refreshing G&T. Add in a few sprigs of lavender or a sprinkle of rose petals and you’ve got spring in a glass. Not one to rest on their laurels, the good folks at Hendrick’s have taken this idea one step further with a brand-new limited release gin that is the epitome of springtime. Inspired by nature’s most vivid bouquets, Hendrick’s Midsummer Solstice is the first release from the Master Distiller’s Cabinet of Curiosities at the new Hendrick’s Gin Palace and if this new addition to the range is anything to go by we’ve got some exciting gin adventures ahead with Hendrick’s!

This new small-batch, limited-edition gin was created by the woman who first created Hendrick’s — Master Distiller, Lesley Gracie. The unconventional release from the much-loved gin brand is infused with a careful arrangement of secret floral essences chosen to enhance and accentuate the existing elements of the original Hendrick’s house style, including the gin’s signature essences of rose and cucumber. The result is an enchantingly floral and exquisitely refreshing gin that blossoms on the palate while remaining unmistakably Hendrick’s.

The Midsummer Solstice’s fragrant notes include zesty juniper with undertones of orange blossom and exotic ripeness. It’s sweet and slightly fruit-forward on the nose with an overall fruity, floral flavour on the palate. The classic Hendrick’s pine and juniper character, though mild, is still there. Hendrick’s Midsummer Solstice will no doubt be a hit with fans of bold floral gins while still keeping existing Hendrick’s fans happy. This bright and floral take on Hendrick’s house style is an exciting addition to the Hendrick’s gin range and is delicious enjoyed as a simple G&T or in a cocktail with all the trimmings.

In a nutshell, Hendrick’s Midsummer Solstice is the upscale answer to the Pink Gin fad that we’re still seeing everywhere. If you’re looking for more than just a pretty pink colour then this new offering from Hendrick’s won’t disappoint. Any drink that you have been enjoying with a pink fruity gin can easily swap in Hendrick’s Midsummer Solstice gin. With this gin, you can enjoy a lovely floral G&T without the garish pink colour and sickly sweet taste you get from most pink gins.

If you’re still not sure how to drink it, try the Hendrick’s Midsummer Solstice Sprits. Best served in a wine glass full of cubed ice, combine 50ml Hendrick’s Midsummer Solstice with 50ml sparkling wine and 150ml tonic water before garnishing with cucumber ribbon and a slice of orange.

The great news is, this is the first of many limited releases from Ms. Gracie’s Cabinet of Curiosities so be sure to keep a lookout for new additions to the Hendrick’s gin collection throughout the year. Hendrick’s Gin limited-edition “Midsummer Solstice” is now available from Makro at R520 per 750ml and other leading liquor outlets nationwide.
