After Playstation unveiled their proposed line-up of initial games for the PS5, Microsoft has showcased their incoming roster of titles during the Xbox Showcase event. We’ve picked 5 that caught our eye, and of course, that you need to know about:
From Remedy, who brought us the original Max Payne and last year’s brilliant Control, comes CrossfireX. Now, some might be familiar with Crossfire, as the game is actually a multiplayer shooter which has been around for the past couple of years, but Remedy has now build a brand-new single-player campaign for the game, and it looks spectacular with slow-motion gunplay and bombastic set-pieces. Taking control of a number of different characters in a private military force, you’re exposed to a world of espionage and secret conflicts, but like many other Remedy games, there’s more than meets the eye in CrossfireX, as there are some unusual happenings in the world of CrossfireX.
Instead of Forza 8, Microsoft showed off the new game, simply titled Forza Motorsport, which still is the eighth primary entry into the long-running racing franchise, but it’s taking the form of a soft reboot this time around. Of course, in typical Forza fashion, the in-engine trailer showcased some breathtaking graphics and hyper-realistic car models, and finally getting a truly next-gen iteration of one of the premier racing franchises has got our engines revving.
State of Decay 3
We only got a brief (but terrifying) CG trailer, but the fact that a third State of Decay game is in the works is exciting. The open-world zombie-survival series has improved with each release, and some finer tweaking to the general feel and playability of the State of Decay formula could result in a true smash-hit. Besides a snowy setting, there aren’t any specific details, but the trailer did reveal a zombified deer, so it’s safe to say that the human undead won’t be the only things trying to eat you in the world of State of Decay 3.
Halo Infinite picks up where Halo 5 wrapped-up, but is almost a homecoming for the long-running FPS franchise. The game looks very familiar and won’t be too jarring to longtime fans, but there are some new tricks up Master Chief’s armoured-sleeves, including a grappling hook for traversal and a new semi open-world design which should inject some freshness into the franchise.
Fans of Silent Hill will want to take note of The Medium, which is a new third-person psychological horror game that will be making its way to Microsoft’s new console. The Medium comes from Polish developer Bloober Team, and tells the story of Marianne, a medium who has the ability to move between the real and spirit realms, and dealing with the horrors that await on either side. There is a really interesting realm-switching mechanic which can be done on-the-fly, which should create some haunting moments and trippy sequences, and we can’t wait!
You can also check out the entire Xbox Showcase below, which featured more trailers for the likes of Fable, Watch Dogs: Legion, and more.
