Game releases in SA this week

This week sees the return of a notable football contender, as well as a supernatural stab-’em-up; but which one will you be playing?

Pro Evolution Soccer 2018

Release date: 12 September 2017 (PS4, Xbox One, PC, Xbox 360, PS3)

Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer is back for another season and looking to increase its dent in a market that has come to be dominated by FIFA in recent years. The franchise has made great strides to deliver a more comprehensive and well-rounded gameplay experience, and the visuals to match. In terms of actual gameplay improvements, the existing model has been tweaked and refined to create a more realistic game speed. ‘Strategic dribbling’ adds more options in possession and ‘Real Touch+’ allows the use of the full body for ball control. There are also new free-kick and penalty-kick systems and one-player kick-offs.

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider

Release date: 15 September 2017 (PS4, Xbox One,  PC)

Much like Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is not an expansion nor DLC for Dishonored 2, but rather a standalone spin-off adventure set in the Dishonored universe. Death of the Outsider stars Billie Lurk, a character who first showed up in the first Dishonored DLC, and subsequently played a larger role in the sequel. She was involved with the group who assassinated Dunwall’s Empress, which set off the events of the first game. Just like every game in the series, Billie arrives with entirely new abilities of her own, including some refreshing ideas that mix up the formula of the supernatural mass-murdering.

Metroid: Samus Returns

Release date: 15 September 2017 (3DS)

The beloved Metroid Prime series makes its return to the 2D arena for the first-time in 14 years with Metroid Prime: Samus Returns, a remake of Metroid II. While the game retains its old-school charm, new additions to the game include the Free Aim ability allowing Samus to aim in 360 degrees, instead of just diagonally, horizontally and vertically as in previous 2D titles. A laser sight has been added to Samus’ Arm Cannon which will glow red when it intersects an enemy. The game also features melee combat similar to Metroid: Other M, including a Melee Counter that Samus can perform to deflect enemy charges and create an opening for further attack.
