Game of August 2020

Which games should you keep your eyes out for this month?

The gaming release calendar is beginning to heat up with some exciting titles on the cards, along with some rejuvenated franchises making a return, in one form or another. Check out our picks for the biggest games hitting consoles and PCs in August 2020:

Fast & Furious: Crossroads

Release date: 7 August 2020 (PS4 | Xbox One | PC)

[fvplayer id=”164″]

The Fast & Furious franchise has dominated the box-office, but has never really done well in the video game world. Maybe Fast & Furious: Crossroads will change that, maybe it won’t, but it looks fun. It’s essentially a racing/action game hybrid, which throws you into vehicular combat and racing scenarios inspired by the film series, but will deliver a whole new storyline and moments to gawk at. In addition to the single-player mode, it also has a multiplayer mode to challenge your friends in.

Horizon: Zero Dawn

Release date: 7 August 2020 (PC | Also available on PS4)

[fvplayer id=”165″]

After it’s initial release on PS4 back in 2017, Guerrilla Games’ beautiful open-world action adventure comes to PC. As we said in our review when the game originally launched, “it’s a gorgeous visual romp through a post-apocalyptic Earth with gameplay that’s addictive yet challenging enough to keep you coming back for more. A must-play.” Of course, there are some PC enhancements, as the game supports ultra-wide monitors, an unlocked frame rate, improved foliage physics, and improved reflection details, along with the DLC content.

Hyper Scape

Release date: 11 August 2020 (PS4 | Xbox One | PC)

[fvplayer id=”166″]

Ubisoft is diving into the free-to-play shooter market with Hyper Scape. The game takes place in the distant future of 2054, where up to 100 Contenders descend upon the virtual city of Neo-Arcadia to engage in action-packed and fast-paced matches to be crowned champion.

EA Sports UFC 4

Release date: 14 August 2020 ( Xbox One | PC)

[fvplayer id=”167″]

Octagon chaos returns with UFC 4, bringing a new Real Player Movement(RPM) system to clinches and takedowns, as well as new ways to inflict some serious ground-and-pound damage and new counter-attacks in order to escape. You can also take the action outside the arenas, with new backyard locations if you feel like you need a little more dust in your punches.

Flight Simulator

Release date: 18 August 2020 (PC)

[fvplayer id=”168″]

Flight Simulator is back and better than ever, bringing arguably the most photo-realistic flying experience you’ll get inside your home. Flight Simulator will simulate the entire Earth (yeah, that’s right) using textures and topographical data from Bing Maps. Three-dimensional representations of the world’s features, such as terrain, trees, grass, buildings, and water will be generated using Microsoft Azure technology, making for some stunning scenery while testing out a ton of different planes.

Release date: 20 August 2020 (Xbox One | PC)

[fvplayer id=”169″]

Anyone who threw a controller in the early nineties is probably familiar with the original Battletoads. Well, the side-scrolling beat-’em-up is getting a reboot this August. Like the original title, the game allows up to three players to play cooperatively as the Battletoads: Rash, Pimple, and Zitz, each with distinct play-styles. The game’s graphical style is hand-drawn and more cartoony than prior series games, but it won’t be any more forgiving, bringing back the tough difficulty for new-gen gamers to suffer through.

PGA Tour 2K21

Release date: 21 August 2020 (PS4 | Xbox One | PC | Switch)

[fvplayer id=”170″]

Head back to the course this month with PGA Tour 2K21, adding an all-new career mode, create-a-player, customise equipment, online matches, and a whole lot more. There are 15 licensed courses in total, along with pros to play as or compete against, including Sergio Garcia, Justin Thomas, Bryson DeChambeau, Matt Kuchar, Kevin Kisner, and more.

Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time

Release date: 21 August 2020 (PS4 | Xbox One | PC | Switch)

[fvplayer id=”171″]

Serving as an alternative scenario to the TV series’ finale, Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time is a third-person action adventure which allows gamers to dive back into some of the iconic moments and scenarios from the show, and rewrite the outcomes. Jack has the ability to use a handful of different weapons and fighting styles, which should make for some fun combat. Oh, and of course, the original voice actor Phil LaMarr returns too.

Project Cars 3

Release date: 28 August 2020 (PS4 | Xbox One | PC)

[fvplayer id=”172″]

Racing veterans Slightly Mad Studios release their third instalment in the Project Cars franchise, bringing more customisable cars that are available to race on 140 global circuits. The game also features 24-hour cycles, various seasons, and weather effects; and is said to be the real spiritual successor to the brilliant but under-appreciated Need for Speed: Shift spin-off.

Wasteland 3

Release date: 28 August 2020 (PS4 | Xbox One | PC)

[fvplayer id=”173″]

After a long development cycle, old-school RPG fans will be glad to know that Wasteland 3 will be releasing this month, bringing isometric turn-based action back to console and PC gamers. New to the squad-based post-apocalyptic franchise is the ability to play the campaign cooperatively and utilise vehicles to traverse the world.
