I’m not going to lie: I’m not the biggest fan of facial treatments. As a guy who tends to keep things simple and has found the likes of microneedling and other skin treatments way too abrasive for my skin, I’m often apprehensive (at best) when it comes to reviewing anything to do with someone fiddling with my face.

Founded by Adrian Gounder, the recently opened Skin Recode has already built a reputation for being the go-to place for results-driven facials and skincare treatments. The all-inclusive skincare clinic offers facials, laser hair removal, bio needling, and more, catering to clients with all skin types, tones, and textures.
Firstly, the branch itself (located at Riverlands Mall in Cape Town) is something out of a science-fiction film. Minimalist furniture, gorgeous lighting, and a soft, earthy appearance to everything make you feel calm and relaxed, rather than walking into a room glistening with sterile fluorescent lights.
Much like the aesthetic, Skin Recode is all about a science-first approach, starting each session with a consultation and skin analysis, which is a) interesting in itself and b) ensures you have the right treatment on the day for your skin’s needs. Plus, you can do the skin analysis again after your treatment to see the effects of the treatment on your skin, so you know your investment in your skin was worth the splurge.

So, what is Skin Recode’s Bright Code Activation facial? This is basically a non-invasive and extremely effective treatment to rejuvenate and brighten up your skin, and let me tell you, you’ll only know how ‘dull’ your skin was once you’ve completed this treatment and seen the change.
Taking 60 minutes in total, the facial itself harnesses the full power of vitamin C, helping to fade dullness, boost radiance and strengthen your skin barrier. Think brighter tone, refined texture, and long-lasting luminance all in one treatment.
You’ll start with a very soft and refreshing massage of the vitamin C serum packed with advanced tyrosinase inhibitors to target and reduce existing hyperpigmentation and dullness while preventing future discolouration. I enjoyed this entire experience from start to finish. Often, results-driven facials are not relaxing, but this was an incredibly restorative and enhancing session that I felt like a luxury car being detailed and looked after.
Leaving the room and feeling good was one thing, but getting a compliment from my wife regarding how ‘fresh’ I looked and how clean my skin appeared was just confirmation to the effects of the treatment.
