The 2025 gaming calendar is coming to a close, and it’s a good time to take stock of the best of the best the year has to offer. If you’re going to pick up three games for the holidays, these are the titles that should be on your radar:

Ghost of Yotei

Platform: PS5

Suckerpunch’s follow-up to the 2020 open-world samurai action game exceeded expectations upon its release this year. It may not have reinvented the wheel, but it evolved the meaty combat, slick parrying mechanics, and gorgeous visuals, while also introducing a few new tricks. Protagonist Atsu may not be as charismatic as Ghost of Tsushima’s Jin Sakai, but Yotei provides an interesting expansion on the post-feudal Japanese lore.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

Platform: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC

A remake of a 20-year-old game, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is the perfect blend of new gameplay mechanics and old sensibilities, delivering a game that runs well, looks gorgeous, but has a dramatic and somewhat ridiculous tone which doesn’t take itself too seriously. Old fans will know and love that this aspect is still present, and new fans shouldn’t miss out on one of the defining MGS experiences around, albeit in an even better, more evolved form. Don’t let this sneak past.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

Platforms: PS5

Much like the first entry, Death Stranding 2 is quite an obscure game, but there are a lot more accessible elements to it that make the game more appealing to a wider audience. It’s hard to encapsulate, but it’s part survival game, part stealth-action, and part hiking-simulation — DS2 is a fascinating blend of genres that delivers a bit ‘more’ with regards to how all these elements fit together. So, if you’re looking for a bizarre but intriguing sci-fi story, a lot of gameplay variety, and an experience that doesn’t hold your hand, Death Stranding 2 is well worth playing, even if you didn’t enjoy the first.
