The Xbox One has produced some exciting games since its entry into the highly-competitive marketplace, so we decided to take a closer-look at the five best games Microsoft’s eighth-generation console has to offer.
Coming from the minds behind Ratchet & Clank and Resistance, we knew Sunset Overdrive was going to bring the noise. The explosive and stylised world of Sunset City may be overrun with mutant zombies, but its fun gameplay mechanics and forward-thinking story push it beyond the usual run-‘n-gun scenario. The complex upgrade system and punchy punk soundtrack only upped the ante. The only thing comparable it to is a Tony Hawk Pro Skater game… with guns and monsters.
Titanfall struggled to live up to the COD-killer hype that surrounded it before release, but while it didn’t change the face of multiplayer as we know it, it’s still a great game. Respawn Entertainment’s silky-smooth gameplay paired extremely well with the high-flying action at the heart of the experience. Whether you’re a fleet-footed Pilot, dashing around and running up along walls, or a stomping, rocket-firing Titan mech, Titanfall has a lot of variety for gamers looking for something different.
Forza Motorsport 5
While another sequel is in the pipelines, Forza 5 is the highest reviewed Xbox One game to date. This game delivers all the thrills of driving the best cars in the world through gorgeous locations worldwide. While this title is more forgiving than the Playstation exclusive Gran Turismo series, it still offers a realistic driving simulator that’s great for racing game veterans and newbies alike. Let’s not forget it’s probably the most gorgeous racing game ever made. If you have an Xbox One and you dig racing games, Forza Motorsport 5 should be in your game collection.
Dead Rising 3
Set during the inevitable zombie apocalypse, Dead Rising 3 has you make your way out of Los Angeles before the military arrives to blow the city to smithereens. Previous games in the series were more boxed-in, but this one is open-world, which means you can wander wherever you want, picking up all kinds of common items and using them as weapons against the undead. The killer feature here is how many zombies the Xbox One hardware lets the game throw at you at once. It can become overwhelming at times – which is exactly how a zombie attack should feel.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection
Halo fans knew it was inevitable, but it somehow still managed to make them squeal when it was announced. Halo: The Master Chief Collection gathers all four of the series’ main games into one gorgeous package. Best of all, the games that first came out on the original Xbox, Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2, have been totally remastered with graphics that look right at home on the Xbox One. The devs also packed in every single multiplayer map that’s ever been released for all of the games, including DLC and PC-exclusive maps. All in all, it’s an impressive package, and a great deal for anyone with a fondness for the series.
