The 2023 Rugby World Cup got off to a cracking start, with some excellent games that have set the tone for the tournament. Giant encounters, smaller teams rising up, and of course, some spectacular tries — we’ve rounded up the best moments from the first round for your viewing pleasure:

No-Look Cross-Kick from Manie Libbok is a Ridiculous Piece of Skill

South Africa got their Rugby World Cup trophy defence underway with a fantastic 18-3 win against Scotland in Marseille, France; with some excellent tries being scored.

The best of which came from Kurt-Lee Arendse, but it was the set-up which made it so special. After a turnover and swing in momentum, flyhalf Manie Libbok found Arendse with a no-look cross-kick, completely keeping the defenders’ attention off of the speedy winger.

Another angle:

Offloads Galore as Fiji Score Stunning Try Against Wales

Fiji went full-Fiji against Wales, and strung together a beautiful running phase that saw Waisea Nayacalevu step inside the Welsh defence, offload to Semi Radradra, who then offloaded to flanker Lekima Tagitagivalu who went flying over the line. Everything is done at speed, and the speed and accuracy has to be appreciated.

France Score Cracking Try to Seal the Deal Against the All Blacks

Spotting that Beauden Barrett was out of position and had just taken contact, replacement scrumhalf Maxime Lucu chipped over with a short box-kick that Melvyn Jaminet pounced onto, sealing victory for Les Bleus.
