Due to Manchester City’s runaway form in the Premier League their city rivals United are unlikely to taste league glory this season, but they’re capable of competing for success in the cup competitions they’re involved in. The Champions League is probably a long shot, but they’re the current FA Cup holders and will likely want to defend that trophy.
Local lad and youth academy product Jesse Lingard has often had questions asked about his pedigree, and whether or not he’s truly United caliber, and over the last few weeks he’s been silencing his critics with impeccable displays in all competitions.
One of those displays came against Derby County in an FA Cup tie at Old Trafford, where the attacking midfielder put away this volley:
He’s not known for his prolific goalscoring, but Lingard has a knack for scoring when it matters and seems to have a particular affinity for scoring in the FA Cup. United’s attack has been stuttering lately, and if Lingard keeps producing finishes like the one above he might force his way into the starting lineup more often and ahead of star names like Juan Mata and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
