Michael Bay signs on for Transformers 4

Published

on

Paramount finally confirmed the inevitable this week, as the studio announced that both director Michael Bay and an official release date have been locked down for Transformers 4. The movie is already being trumped up as part reboot, in the sense that it will exist within the continuity established in Bay’s previous Transformers flicks, but is also going to “clean house” and remove certain characters (primarily, human players) who played prominent roles in the original TF trilogy.

New insider reports on the fourth Transformers movie also claim the film will be a “direct” sequel to the third installment (subtitled Dark of the Moon) – and that certain thematic elements from the previous movies will also be left out of the loop, this next time around.

Jeremy created MenStuff in June 2014 in order to bring unique men’s lifestyle news, features and articles to the world. While also talking about himself in the third-person, Jeremy has worked as a professional journalist at SA Rugby magazine, MyBroadband, MyGaming, and written for FHM and TFG Tech.

SA Cinema Industry Ready to Welcome Back Movie-Fans

South Africa’s cinema industry reveals reopening campaign

Published

on

Following the confirmation that South African cinemas will be reopening next Friday, 28 August – a consolidated industry campaign titled “It’s Time To Go BIG Again,” involving all key role-players, launched on TV, Digital Outdoor, Radio, Online, and through social media this past Friday, 21 August. Cinemas in South Africa have been closed for the past 5 months due to COVID-19 lockdown regulations, resulting in a complete shutdown of all their business operations.

The campaign’s central point of engagement will be online via the GoBIGagain.co.za microsite and promoted with the #GoBIGagain hashtag – containing detailed information on all cinemas’ health & safety protocols, local and international industry news, direct links to the various cinema groups in Southern Africa and more information on the movies heralding the return of the Big Screen Experience to cinemas. It’s primarily about re-launching the unique appeal of cinemas, to again screen movies with larger-than-life quality in a way that movies were meant to be seen and experienced.

“We are very excited to roll out our ‘Go BIG Again’ campaign, which is the culmination of a coordinated industry effort to establish a responsible reopening strategy for the full spectrum of the local cinema business. All of South Africa’s cinema exhibitors, film distributors and international studio representatives, along with other industry stakeholders, joined hands and have been collaborating for the past few months to effectively map out the reopening of the industry on non-competitive terms. We are also very grateful for the overwhelming support from our partners in the media and entertainment community, who have demonstrated keen interest over the past few months and teamed up with us to launch this campaign nationwide. It’s time to go BIG again!” says the members of the South African cinema industry committee.

One of the campaign’s core objectives is to assure movie fans that all those cinemas reopening will include the preventative measures as required by governmental regulations, to keep cinema staff and cinemagoers safe and healthy. The campaign also reignites awareness around the magic of the movies and includes glimpses of past and present box office hits, cinematic classics with impact, audience favourites, the power of South African film and other striking content which define the essence of watching movies on a Big Screen with premium quality sound in a cinema.

Some of the major new movie releases lined up for cinemas over the next few months include Warner Bros’ Tenet; Twentieth Century Studios’ New Mutants; Disney’s Mulan; Universal’s Trolls: World Tour and the new James Bond film, No Time to Die; Marvel Studios’ Black Widow; Sony’s Connected; independent studio titles such as Ava from Filmfinity and Unhinged from Empire Entertainment; as well as locally produced films Flatland (Indigenous Film Distribution) and Toorbos (Filmfinity).

Based on current governmental regulations and guided by advice from the Department of Health, the World Health Organisation and internationally recognised industry experts – some of the key health and safety protocols being implemented in Nu Metro, Ster-Kinekor and other cinemas are listed below:

  • Online bookings in advance are encouraged.
  • Mask-wearing will be mandatory for all customers and staff, and can only be taken off while eating or drinking inside the cinema auditoria.
  • Temperature checks will be done on arrival for all customers at access points to cinema complexes.
  • Customers will have direct access to hand sanitiser at cinema access points, and are required to sanitise on entrance to venues. Various in-cinema messages encourage regular hand sanitising and other precautionary requirements.
  • Social distancing measures will be implemented for cinema foyers and seating inside cinema auditoria – to ensure a physical distance of 1.5m is maintained between people at all times in all areas.
  • Access control management and a limit on ticket sales per movie show will be applied to ensure the required venue capacity is capped at the required minimum per theatre or public space within a cinema complex at all times.
  • All cinemas will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before and after each and every show.
  • All high-touch point areas such as kiosks, self-service terminals, serving counters, door handles, rails, benches, booths and bathroom areas will be disinfected on a regular basis daily.
  • All staff have been retrained in effective and frequent hand-washing – targeting fronts, backs, wrists and between fingers – with soap and water for at least 20 seconds every time.

WATCH: Justice League: Snyder Cut Teaser Trailer

Check out the first teaser for Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

Published

on

Zack Snyder and DC have released the first full teaser for the upcoming Snyder Cut edition of Justice League.

Unveiled during DC’s online Fandome event, the teaser reveals a lot of new never-before-seen footage and a darker tone of the 2017’s release.

Snyder also confirmed that his version will hit streaming service HBO Max in 2021 in 4 parts, each with an hour-long runtime.

The impending release of the fan-demanded Snyder Cut follows an internet campaign which requested that original director Zack Snyder’s edit of the film, rather than Ross Whedon’s, which made it into theatres.

Snyder had to step away towards the end of filming Justice League due to a family tragedy. The Avengers director Whedon then stepped in to finish the project, which many fans say steered the movie in a more light-hearted direction and didn’t align visually with initial teasers and the tonal vision Snyder had for the film.

You can check out our review of Justice League, as well as some thoughts on where a possible Justice League sequel could go. Maybe the release of the Snyder Cut will motivate WB to kick the Justice League 2 plans into action?

Marvel Reportedly Planning an Avengers vs. X-Men Movie

Marvel is said to have some big plans to bring the iconic mutants into the MCU.

Published

on

Xmen Avengers

With Disney’s acquisition of Fox (who owned the rights to the X-Men film rights for the past 20-odd years), it’s a no-brainer that Marvel will look to reboot and reinvigorate their iconic mutant creations now that the property is back with its original creators.

How exactly they do that, and how they incorporate it into the existing Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is the questions; however, according to rumours, Marvel is eventually planning to pit the Avengers against the X-Men in a massive milestone movie.

A storyline which would play out in an admittedly tantalising Avengers vs. X-Men film would be quite an organic one, as the two superhero teams have butted heads in a 2012 crossover comic series.

The news of the rumoured crossover comes from multiple sources, so take it with a pinch of salt, but it does match some of the things that we’ve heard in the past. As per the report, Doctor Doom will gradually play a larger and larger role in the MCU, one which will eventually culminate in the MCU’s adaptation of Secret Wars, which the studio is said to be in the early stages of developing. The arc will then shift to introduce Magento as a primary villain, culminating in Earth’s Mightiest Heroes having to battle Xavier’s gifted individuals.

While Avengers; Endgame appeared to be the culmination of Marvel’s biggest properties, a potential Avengers vs. X-Men film could eclipse it given the scale and fandom around the two franchises, which would mean big numbers at the box-office for Marvel.
