South African consumers can now enjoy a tequila that is both premium yet accessible.
Tecán Tequila, the Netherlands’ most popular tequila brand, officially launches in South Africa on 19 February, aiming to offer consumers a premium tequila at an accessible price point without compromising on quality.
Born in Amsterdam and known for disrupting the spirits scene locally, Tecán redefines modern tequila culture with a strong lifestyle positioning achieved through art, music and fashion partnerships. Following its success abroad, the brand now brings this lifestyle-led approach with its first expansion into (Southern) Africa.
Tecán blends quality craftsmanship with a strong cultural point of view. The name fuses tequila with bacán; a Latin American term for someone with effortless charm, confidence and magnetic presence. A bacán-type person fills the room with their contagious energy, always getting the party started. This is the energy that embodies Tecán.
Collaborations include global industry leaders and cultural tastemakers such as No Art, Awakenings, Vogue and Filling Pieces. They’ve also worked closely with local heroes, positioning themselves as a brand that is approachable and relatable. With two varieties available, choose from Tecán Reposado (a smooth, full-profile tequila with a butterscotch aftertaste), or Tecán Blanco (a pure and balanced tequila with a light spicy finish).
Tecán Tequila will be available from 19 February at select venues and retailers nationwide at a suggested retail price of R790 for Blanco and R860 for Reposado.
