We’ve already spoken about Under Armour’s impressive HOVR cushioning system in the past, but the models previously shown were built to be running shoes first and foremost and not focused on easy-going, everyday wear.
Most brands know, though, that the lifestyle segment of people’s fashion purchases is where the action is at. Other brands have been populating their ranges with a ton of lifestyle models, and Under Armour is getting in on the action with their HOVR SLK.
The biggest difference between the SLK and the performance oriented Phantom and Sonic models is that the SLK has a slimmer outsole profile, as well as a less bulky upper that’s more focused on providing an easy-wearing experience rather than support for hard running. The knit upper retains the low ankle-collar effect, with a low profile lacing system.
A big draw to these is the HOVR cushioning system, which is essentially Under Armour’s proprietary EVA foam wrapped in an additional ‘energy web’ mesh that results in a comfortable, cushioned stride that still provides good energy return. The effect will be less pronounced but nevertheless present on the SLK models, despite a less dense application of the HOVR sole.
They’re available in several colourways at Under Armor branches at the Waterfront in Cape Town, as well as Mall of Africa, Sandton City, and Menlyn Mall in Gauteng at a retail price of R1,999.
