There’s a few car manufacturers looking to enter the massive South African bakkie market, and French car company Peugeot is the latest set to unleash their own pick-up on South Africa.
Speaking to CARmag.co.za, Peugeot Citroën South Africa’s managing director, Xavier Gobille, confirmed the soon-to-be-revealed rugged model would be available in South Africa in 2021.
There’s not too many details on what the vehicle will look like, but Peugeot did recently partner with Chinese firm ChangAn Automobile to co-develop a new one-tonne pick-up. They’re well-known in Asian markets for their F70 model, pictured below.
With rugged good looks, the F70 is indeed the type of bakkie that would appeal to the local South African market. If ChangAn’s F70 is anything to go by, it’s clear that this new bakkie offering will signal the beginning of a new market focus for Peugeot South Africa as it aims to change brand perception in the SA market.
