Adidas Predator 26 League Review — Best Budget-Friendly Boots Around?

Adidas has been delivering some pretty decent takedown boots in recent years, but there’s always a little something missing from the cheaper models that appear on the top-end options. Of course, this is understandable, but with the 2026 edition of the Predator League, the gap between the third tier ‘League’ boot and the highest-end ‘Elite’ model is smaller than ever.

The Predator saw a bit of a revamp for the 2026 edition, with a more accomodating and less aggressive soleplate, a thinner upper than the padded one on the 2025 edition, and a more snug fit around the heel. And I’m happy to report that the League edition features all these improvements too.

Regarding the upper, the Elite features what Adidas calls Hypertouch, which is a very thin, high-quality synthetic, but on the League model, it’s a mesh-based upper that is also incredibly soft and thin, but lacks some of the grip elements found on the more expensive models. However, this isn’t a bad thing necessarily, as some players prefer a simpler upper with less distractions; and on top of that, the League does have a bit of texturing on the upper, so there’s a bit of ‘grab’ on the ball, albeit minimal.

The Predator 25’s soleplate features a tri-star type layout, but this season, Adidas has offered a more traditional style when it comes to stud-shape. They may look like blades, but the stud shapes lean more towards conical with rounded outside edges, and flatter surfaces on the interior side. This results in a traction that allows you to rotate in the ground effectively, while still having a bit of bite when pushing off due to the flatter edges. I personally prefer it to something more aggressive, and offers a better balance than last year’s model. Rather than making the studs different to the Elite model, the League also exactly the same design, which is a nice touch from Adidas.

Where it does differ, though, is in the soleplate material. It’s a thinner and more flexible plastic, so the stability is more on the softer side as opposed to the top-end model. Again, it’s not always a bit thing, as some players prefer a bit more flexability under foot as opposed to the stiffness of some higher-end boots. The League does also feature Adidas’ ‘Powerspine’, which is basically a stiffenned plastic rod in the soleplate. It’s said to help with shooting power, which probably doesn’t work, but it does offer some rigidity on the softer League soleplate — so that’s a win.

One of the best features on the Predator 26 League model is the inclusion of a heel-counter. Now, most brands ditch the heel-counter on takedown boots in order to make them cheaper, but praise has to be given to Adidas here for keeping it on the League model. In my opinion, it’s one of the most important elements that helps with fit and stability, and having it on a lower-end boot is a huge plus.

What I also prefer about the 2026 Predator over the 2025 model is the fit. The Predator 26 League features a bit of a wider design allowing those with some width in their foot to experience and enjoy the Predator, but the heel is also a bit snugger with a stitch-and-turn heel cuff that is comfortable and keeps your foot locked down. I’d argue it’s even better than the heel on the Elite model, which can be light and soft, but a little flimsy, making the boot feel a little less connected to your foot. It’s funny to have something cheaper that’s actually better, but it just works.

In years gone by, the Predator wasn’t always the best boot for general running, but was the king of kicking and grip. In 2026, Adidas has flipped that, given a boot that’s more accomodating for all types of players and a design that’s a joy to run, cut, and move in. It’s a big statement, but the Predator 26 League is one of the best takedown options Adidas has ever made, and should be checked out if you have any interest in them.
