Here are the games you need to have on your radar this August.
August is here and with it comes some big and exciting new game releases to keep our eyeballs and fingers busy. From interesting new action RPGs and franchise releases, to prequels and a return to the world of Metal Gear Solid, here are the games to indulge in this month:
Beast of Reincarnation
Release date: 4 August 2026 (Xbox Series X/S | PS5 | PC)
Beast of Reincarnation is an action RPG that blends real-time and turn-based combat, utilising the game’s hero and her canine companion. The game also features a really unique setting: a post-apocalyptic Japan setting, full of creatures and robotic monstrosities.
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls
Release date: 6 August 2026 (PS5 | PC)
Arc System Works (who developed the fantastic Dragon Ball FighterZ fighting game) have now been given license to dive into Marvel world. Marvel Tokon is a 4v4 fighting game, where you tag in and out your superhero team, comprising of a huge selection of characters, with everyone from Spider-Man to Magneto available to fight as. It’s fast, frenetic, and picking the right combo of superpowers looks to be a fun twist on the fighting genre.
The Sinking City 2
Release date: 18 August 2026 (Xbox Series X/S | PS5 | PC)
2019’s The Sinking City was a pretty great Lovecraftian survival horror from Frogwares that integrated some investigation and detective work into the gameplay. The sequel has been a long-time-coming but is finally arriving this August and doubles down on the survival-horror elements and is set after a supernatural flood in the city of Arkham, where you have to try and save the woman you love from a cosmic ritual.
Mortal Shell II
Release date: 20 August 2026 (Xbox Series X/S | PS5 | PC)
Mortal Shell was a fantastic entry into ‘Soulslike’ genre a few years back, but Mortal Shell II is more of a standalone sequel action-RPG with faster, adrenaline-charged, high-stakes combat. The game sees you possess a number of different ‘shells’ from fallen warriors, giving you different abilities and weapons, as you fight through the brutal world to dethrone false gods.
Aliens: Fireteam II
Release date: 4 August 2026 (Xbox Series X/S | PS5 | PC)
Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 continues the vibe of 2021’s Aliens: Fireteam, providing an action-packed co-op experience, where you play as Colonial Marines deployed to the most hostile corners of the Aliens universe. The iconic movie aliens, the Xenomorphs, stalk the corridors, ambush from the shadows, and swarm in overwhelming numbers, so you’ll need to coordinate with your fireteam, leverage each class’s unique abilities, and adapt on the fly as encounters escalate from tense standoffs to all-out war.
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2
Release date: 27 August 2026 (Xbox Series X/S | PS5 | | Switch | Switch 2 | PC)
The first batch of Metal Gear Solid games got a re-release with the Master Collection Vol. 1, and now Metal Gear Solid 4 and Peace Walker HD are arriving on current-gen consoles and PC. MGS4 is one of the best entries, so it’ll be a joy to replay, while Peace Walker is an underrated gem that also deserves some love.
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy
Release date: 27 August 2026 (Xbox Series X/S | PS5 | PC)
The two A Plague Tale games are harrowing yet beautiful adventures, and a prequel is arriving this August. In Resonance, you play as Sophia who is tasked with a journey to the Minotaur’s Island. However, she’ll need to outsmart deadly foes, unravel ancient secrets, and confront a mythical creature at the heart of a devastating curse. Resonance takes a similar approach to previous games in the franchise, but emphasises a new combat system over the stealth-heavy gameplay in the last two releases.
Star Wars: Zero Company
Release date: 27 August 2026 (Xbox Series X/S | PS5 | PC)
If you like X-COM and other turn-based strategy games, you’ll want to look out for Star Wars: Zero Company. The game is set during the twilight of the Clone Wars, where you take control of Hawks, a former Republic officer who leads Zero Company as they are recruited for an operation that pits them against an emerging threat that will consume the galaxy if left unchecked. It features a full single-player campaign and new story in the Star Wars universe, which should be interesting.
