One of the biggest gaming expos in the world, Gamescom, is taking place from 23-27 August, and the Opening Night Live show to kick off the expo is often filled with a lot of announcements and reveal trailers.

We were treated to some interesting surprises and unveilings at the show, and to help you get up to speed with what was announced, we’ve rounded up 7 of the best trailers and reveals, below:

Black Myth: Wukong

We’ve known about Chinese action game Black Myth: Wukong for a while now, but got a closer-look at the gorgeous Unreal Engine 5-powered adventure with a brand-new gameplay trailer showcasing some spectacular visuals and incredible enemy designs.

Lords of the Fallen

After being revealed last year, a more in-depth trailer has been released for Lords of the Fallen, the sequel to the 2014 Dark Souls-like release that went relatively under the radar despite accruing a decent fanbase.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage

The next Assassin’s Creed game is on the horizon, with Mirage taking players back to 19th-century Baghdad and playing as Basim (who appeared as an elder assassin in other AC titles). A new trailer gave some small glimpses at some of the new move-sets and action that awaits fans of the franchise.

Alan Wake 2

Remedy showcased some more of the supernatural action-horror sequel, Alan Wake 2. The game sees you take control of two protagonists, Alan and Saga, as they fight their way through the nightmarish ‘Dark Place’ created by Alan and his writing.

Crimson Desert

Crimson Desert is a massive open-world action-RPG, but no one realised how big this game was until this new trailer dropped. The game follows a group of struggling mercenaries and the many characters who cross their paths in the vast continent of Pywel, and it looks absolutely stunning in action.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

The Call of Duty franchise is gearing up for a reimagining of the events that played out in the original 2011 Modern Warfare 3 entry, but picking up from the events of the new iteration of the series. A new trailer gave a closer-look at one of the game’s opening missions, highlighting the stealth, enhanced visuals, and top-tier production value to expect from Modern Warfare 3.

Starfield

Bethesda’s own Todd Howard joined Gamescom to give a little more info and highlight some gameplay from the company’s big next RPG, Starfield, which launches on consoles and PC on 6 September.
