The May movie release schedule sees some sizable titles make their long-awaited cinema appearance. With everything from new entries into the MCU to a long-running franchise seeing its (possible) ending, here are the movies to watch in May 2025:

Thunderbolts

Release date: 9 May 2025

One of the other lesser-talked-about Marvel releases is Thunderbolts, the anti-hero team spin-off film that follows the likes of The Winter Soldier, Ghost, the new Black Widow, Red Guardian, and John Walker in a Suicide Squad-like adventure. Actors Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Hannah John-Kamen and Wyatt Russell all star in the film that follows some reformed Marvel villains who are recruited to pull off some sketchy missions for the government.

Shadow Force

Release date: 9 May 2025

Shadow Force stars Kerry Washington and Omar Sy as an estranged couple with a bounty on their heads, who must go on the run with their son to avoid their former employer, a unit of shadow ops that has been sent to kill them. The film also stars Mark Strong, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and Cliff “Method Man” Smith.

Final Destination: Bloodlines

Release date: 16 May 2025

A series which has had a noticeable hiatus in recent years is that of Final Destination. The death-circus that kicked off in 2000 essentially spearheaded a genre where you just watch goofy characters die in ridiculous ways. But, it’s back, and Final Destination: Bloodlines marks the sixth entry into the franchise. The film stars Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, Owen Patrick Joyner, Anna Lore, Brec Bassinger and Tony Todd; and is directed by Adam Stein & Zach Lipovsky.

Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning

Release date: 23 May 2025

You’ve got to give it to Tom Cruise – the man just knows how to deliver an edge-of-your-seat action experience, and the veteran actor is suiting up one last time as Ethan Hunt for Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning. Created as a part two to 2023’s Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning (an awesome entry in the franchise), the sequel picks up after the events of the aforementioned film where Ethan Hunt and his crew are tracking down a weapon that could change the face of the world.

The Karate Kid: Legends

Release date: 30 May 2025

The latest Karate Kid movie brings old and new together, with the original Karate Kid star Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan (who played Mr. Han in the 2010 reboot with Jaden Smith) joining forces to train a new prodigy (played by Ben Wang) in New York City.
