Joseph Koney is a notorious war rebel and leader of a rebel group called the LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army).  The LRA are known for abducting children, forcing the boys to become soldiers and the girls to become sex slaves for the army’s officers. So far, over 30 000 children have been abducted and 2 000 000 displaced since the LRA formed in 1886.  The children are encouraged to use brutal and cruel tactics against civilians which include rape, torture and often killing using blunt weapons.

Non profit organisation ‘Invisible children’ are on a mission to make Joseph Kony’s name famous. This is not to rejoice him for what he’s done, but rather to raise awareness and bring him to justice.  This is set to be their biggest awareness campaign yet, and through the use of social networks such as Twitter, Facebook and Youtube, this movement is growing by the second.

#Kony2012 is currently trending worldwide around the web.
