WATCH: Bok Legend Marco van Staden Reveals the Young Player Set to be a Star
Cato Louw sits down with Springbok and Bulls legend, Marco van Staden.
They’re fast, physical, and they love a good challenge. Openside flankers are crucial in the game of rugby, and Vodacom Bulls icon, Marco van Staden, is here to break down the role for us. Speaking to Cato Louw for BrightRock’s YouTube series, 1 to 15: What rugby players actually do!, the legendary player talks about the ins and outs of being an openside flanker, from where you’ll find them on the field, to their role during lineouts and their intense training regimen. This interview offers everything you need to know about being a world-class openside flanker like Marco van Staden.
The interview also revealed who the World Cup winner’s openside rates as a talent to watch in the number 6 jersey for years to come. “Everyone is watching Cameron [Hanekom],” says Van Staden. “He is the player everyone is watching”.
Hanekom, 23, picked up a knee injury in June and is only expected back at the end of November or the start of December. It remains to be seen if the young loose forward will be called up to the Springbok squad again next year.
In case you haven’t seen the show, BrightRock has teamed up with the Bulls and renowned sports broadcaster, Cato Louw, to produce an innovative online series designed to help new (and seasoned) rugby fans brush up on their rugby knowledge. Each episode features a one-on-one with a Bulls player to break down their position in a fun and casual way. Plus, you get to learn a little more about the player, the man behind the jersey!
