The May gaming release schedule is looking to deliver on the action front, with some heavy-hitters and interesting long-in-development titles finally seeing the light of day. We’ve rounded up the best and most anticipated below:

Captain Blood

Release date: 6 May 2025 (PS5 | Xbox Series X/S | PC | Xbox One } PS4 | Switch)

Captain Blood might be the least-known but most interesting game launching in May. After being in development hell and abandoned over 10 years ago, the game, based on the novel of the same name, is a third-person action adventure akin to the original God of War. It’s got a pirate theme, brutal combat, and one of the best trailers I’ve ever seen. Seriously, give it a watch below:

The Precinct

Release date: 13 May 2025 (PS5 | Xbox Series X/S | PC)

While we have a lot of games on the market where you get to play a criminal, there aren’t too many police-focused games, and it’s a shame. Thankfully, indie title The Precinct is a love-letter to classic cop movies and indulges you in the life of an 80s rookie police officer, diving into a world of thrilling car chases, procedurally-generated crimes, and a healthy dose of gritty cop drama as you protect the populace and solve the mystery of your father’s murder.

Doom: The Dark Ages

Release date: 15 May 2025 (PS5 | Xbox Series X/S | PC)

After 2016’s Doom and its sequel Doom Eternal, we’ll be getting a prequel in the form of Doom: The Dark Ages, which follows the demon-hunting marine in his earlier days, taking on the hordes of hell in the Middle Ages and donning medieval weapons and a furry cape, along with his trusty shotgun and a mech. Trust me, it makes sense (I swear).

Blades of Fire

Release date: 22 May 2025 (PS5 | Xbox Series X/S | PC)

Blades of Fire has come out of nowhere, but looks pretty great. It’s a third-person dark fantasy action game developed by MercurySteam, the studio behind Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Metroid Dread. Combat is all about being tactful, allowing players can choose how to place and position their weapons from two directions (the right and the left). They can also target an enemy’s head or torso, and use slashing, stabbing, and blunt techniques to deal damage.

Deliver at All Costs

Release date: 22 May 2025 (PS5 | Xbox Series X/S | PC)

Deliver At All Costs is an isometric, thrilling action game where destruction, absurdity and intrigue collide. You step into the shoes of Winston Green — a down-on-his-luck courier with a fiery temper and a mysterious past — as he delivers highly unconventional cargo, leaving a trail of havoc and chaos behind him.

Disney Illusion Island

Release date: 30 May 2025 (PS5 | Xbox Series X/S | PC)

After launching on the Switch a few years back, Disney Illusion Island makes its way to the other consoles and PC. This 2D, hand-drawn adventure is similar to that of Rayman Legends or Cuphead, seeing Mickey and his pals embark on an adventure to find three magical books and save the mysterious island of Monoth.
