5 Horror Movies to Brace Yourself For in 2023
Here’s which horror movies are heading your way in 2023.
The horror genre is in for some new additions in 2023, with some spectral spooks and slashing serial killers on the horizon. We’ve rounded up the most intriguing horror movies coming your way in 2023:
The Boogeyman
Release date: 2 June 2023
We’ve seen a few Stephen King projects being adapted into films over the years, but one of his most terrifying properties, The Boogeyman, will see the light of day in 2023. The film is adapted from the famed horror writer’s short story from 1973, and is directed by Rob Savage. Sophie Thatcher, Chris Messina, Vivien Lyra Blair, Marin Ireland, Madison Hu, LisaGay Hamilton, and David Dastmalchian all star in what will likely go down as a horror classic.
Evil Dead Rise
Release date: 21 April 2023
Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead franchise is getting the resuscitation it deserves with Evil Dead Rise, written and directed by newcomer director Lee Cronin (Ghost Train). The movie is about two estranged sisters who reunite, but are then quickly met with body-possessing demons, and forced to fight some genuinely unsettling horrors.
Scream 6
Release date: 10 March 2023
The Scream franchise saw somewhat of a resurrection with 2022’s soft-reboot Scream, and the franchise will continue its slash-fest with a trip to New York City in Scream 6. The sequel picks up after the previous film and follows the Carpenter sisters, played by Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, as they leave Woodsboro for a life in the big city. Of course, Ghostface follows.
Saw X
Release date: 27 October 2023
Yup, a tenth saw film is on the cards for 2023, and one which acts as a ‘midquel’ falling between the first and second movies in the franchise. Tobin Bell is back as John Kramer, aka Jigsaw, alongside Shawnee Smith, who played Amanda in the first three Saw movies (she also appeared in archive footage in the other instalments).

The Exorcist
Release date: 13 October 2023
If you thought it took long for Avatar to get its sequel, a direct follow-up to the original 1973 Exorcist movie is on the way, fifty years later. Jason Blum is a producer on the film, which follows a 12-year-old girl who becomes possessed by a demon. In desperation, her mother calls for assistance from someone who’s been through the same experience in order to vanquish the evil.
