Tom Hiddleston has risen to one of Hollywood’s most sought-after and charismatic actors, showcasing a wide variety of styles and genres, with everything from horror and drama to comic-book and sci-fi under his belt. To celebrate the release of The Life of Chuck, which Hiddleston leads, we’ve rounded up 5 of the best films from the British actor.

Kong: Skull Island

In Legendary’s Monsterverse, the prequel film Kong: Skull Island doesn’t get enough love. It’s a fantastic prelude to the chaos that plays out in the Godzilla vs. Kong movies, and features some truly incredible cinematography. Hiddleston plays the role of soldier John Conrad excellently, adding some heart and charisma in between giant monsters beating the hell out of one another.

Crimson Peak

A lesser-talked-about film from Guillermo del Toro, but one of his most interesting, Crimson Peak is a stunning gothic-horror that features haunting visuals, a captivating location, and some stellar performances, particularly from Hiddleston. Playing a mysterious baron alongside Jessica Chastain, Hiddleston does a fantastic job of keeping you on the edge of your seat right until the end.

Avengers

Who would’ve thought a superhero movie where the most captivating character alongside the likes of Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America would be the villain? Tom Hiddleston’s portrayal of Loki has become iconic, introducing a ‘smaller’ villain into the MCU that completely stole the show with his quick wit, sharp comebacks, and strong screen presence.

High-Rise

High-Rise is a sorely overlooked movie from 2015 that sees Hiddleston playing a doctor who moves into a luxury tower block. Featuring a wealth of modern conveniences, the building allows its residents to become gradually uninterested in the outside world. The infrastructure begins to fail and tensions between residents become apparent, and the building soon descends into chaos. Hiddleston provides a great wedge of reality into the zany and ostentatious world of the tower, and shows how he can truly lead any movie he’s in.

Thor: The Dark World

Speaking of Loki, while Thor: The Dark World isn’t often discussed as one of the best films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s got some of the best Loki moments. Following his fall and capture in Avengers, Loki is forced to begrudgingly help his brother Thor, and the result is some truly memorable moments between Chris Hemsworth and Hiddleston, showing a large range of the actor’s dramatic ability.

The Life of Chuck – hitting theatres on 6 June.

The Life of Chuck takes a more sci-fi drama approach than Flanagan’s other films, seeing Hiddleston playing Charles Krantz in a mind-bending, trippy, biography of sorts. It explores Charles’ remarkable life in reverse, beginning with his death from a brain tumour at 39 and ending with his childhood in a supposedly haunted house. It’s a closer look at the wonder of love and the heartbreak of loss, and is a captivating and intriguing way to tell someone’s story.
