2024 is set to be a bumper year for blockbusters, with some highly-anticipated sequels, franchise entries, and exciting new projects on the cards for movie-lovers to gawk at. We’ve rounded up some of the hottest and most-anticipated movies to get your popcorn ready for in 2024:
The Beekeeper
Release date: 12 January 2024
Jason Statham is quite a dynamic actor. From wrestling sharks to fighting The Rock, he’s done it all. But, now he takes on his toughest assignment: being a beekeeper. In The Beekeeper, Statham plays a mysterious beekeeper who embarks on a brutal campaign for vengeance after he is revealed to be a former operative of a powerful and clandestine organisation known as “Beekeepers.” Pretty on-the-nose disguise, but we’ll buy it.
Argylle
Release date: 2 February 2024
The next film from director Matthew Vaughn, who brought us Kingsman and X-Men: First Class, has another out-of-the-box spy film up his sleeve with Argylle. Starring Bryce Dallas-Howard as an author whose spy-fiction novels draw the attention of actual criminals who think she knows more than she does. Sam Rockwell plays a begrudging hero who has to save the writer and her cat.

Release date: 8 March 2024
Blumhouse’s next unsettling horror follows a young girl who is convinced that her teddy bear is alive. Her stepmom is sceptical, but when strange incidents start happening around their home, the truth that something sinister might be hiding inside the children’s toy becomes a reality.
Kung Fu Panda 4
Release date: 8 March 2024
Jack Black is back for another round as Dreamworks’ martial arts-loving panda bear, this time taking on a new villain who can shapeshift into some of Po’s most infamous foes. Awkwafina, Viola Davis, Dustin Hoffman, James Hong, Bryan Cranston, Ian McShane, and Ke Huy Quan round out the voice cast.
Dune: Part II
Release date: 15 March 2024
The sci-fi tale sees its second chapter his the screens in 2024, as Denis Villeneuve’s Dune Part II arrives in March. The sequel sees the likes of Florence Pugh, Léa Seydoux, Austin Butler, and Christopher Walken join the cast to help round out Frank Herbert’s beloved sci-fi novel adaptation.
Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire
Release date: 29 March 2024
the anticipated next entry into Legendary and WB’s Monsterverse is now titled Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, emphasising the uneasy (but necessary) alliance that the iconic nuclear lizard and giant ape have forged to fight off the other Titans on Earth.
Civil War
Release date: 26 April 2024
Alex Garland, who wrote Sunshine, 28 Days Later and directed Annihilation and Ex Machina, takes a more real-life and harrowing approach with Civil War, telling the story of an all-out battle across North America between two rival sides. Spider-Man‘s Kirsten Dunst plays as a reporter chronicling the events, with Jesse Plemons and Nick Offerman also starring.
The Fall Guy
Release date: 3 May 2024
Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt star in this zany meta-Hollywood take where Gosling plays a jaded stuntman who is forced to work on the set of a film being directed by his ex-wife. After the star of the film goes missing, Gosling’s character investigates to save his job, only to find that there’s a lot more at play with the disappearance.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Story
Release date: 24 May 2024
On the prequel side of things, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will tell the story of Furiosa, who was played by Charlize Theron in 2015’s Mad Mad: Fury Road. This time, The Queen’s Gambit Anya Taylor-Joy takes on the role of the legendary warrior who has to fight for survival in a ravaged, petro-fueled post-apocalyptic world.
Deadpool 3
Release date: 26 July 2024
Ryan Reynolds suits up as Deadpool for a third time, and he finds himself being dropped into the mainline MCU universe. Deadpool meets Hugh Jackman’s original Wolverine, and the two embark on a journey to fix the events that are unfolding to stop some dire timeline consequences.

Kraven the Hunter
Release date: 30 August 2024
The Sony/Marvel cinematic spin-off universe is expanding, with the next Spider-Man villain solo film, Kraven the Hunter. The film, which is rated R, continues the groundwork laid by other standalone anti-hero films, which feature the two Venom films, along with Jared Leto’s Morbius, which are all interconnected and tell the origin tales of Spider-Man’s most iconic foes. Kraven the Hunter explores the beginnings and rise of Sergei Kravinoff (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson), a big-game hunter who is given incredible strength, speed, and tracking powers, along with the ability to influence animals.
Joker: Folie à Deux
Release date: 4 October 2024
Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga headline the sequel to Todd Phillips’ 2019 DC spin-off about the origins of The Joker. After becoming the titular villain and murdering Murray Franklin live on television, Arthur Fleck is imprisoned in Arkham State Hospital where he meets Dr. Harleen Quinzel. The two fall madly in love, forcing Harleen to take action in order to save her new partner-in-crime.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
Release date: 2024
Continuing on from the Planet of the Apes trilogy that began with 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes and concluded with 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes, this next instalment in the arc is called Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, and takes place “many years after” the events of the last film, picking up with Cornelius, the son of Caeser who fronted the last three entries.
