One of the biggest gaming expos in the world, Gamescom, is taking place from 24-28 August, and the Opening Night Live show to kick off the expo is often filled with a lot of announcements and reveal trailers.

We were treated to some interesting surprises and unveilings at the show, and to help you get up to speed with what was announced, we’ve rounded up 7 of the best trailers and reveals, below:

Dead Island 2

After delays, potential cancellations, and tinkerings, Dead Island 2 is back. A brand-new gameplay trailer for the open-world zombie survival game showcases the new Los Angeles setting, weapons, and threats you’ll face when traversing through the Californian hellscape.

Lies of P

One of the most interesting and unique games on the horizon looks to be that of Lies of P. Essentially a spin on the classic Pinnochio tale, Lies of P is a dark, gritty action-RPG where you play as an incarnation of the iconic puppet, although imagined as more of a machine. You’ll battle other robots as you uncover the truth of your origins and abilities.

The Callisto Protocol

Coming from Dead Space creator Glen Schofield, The Callisto Protocol is every survival horror fan’s dream project. Set on a moon-turned-prison called Callisto, you play as an inmate who has to escape the facility which has been overrun by horrifying creatures. Gore, tactical action gameplay, and gorgeous visuals are just some of the things you can look forward to in The Callisto Protocol.

Where Winds Meet

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon fans should take note of Where Winds Meet. The game is an open-world RPG with an emphasis on hand-to-hand combat, and the trailer shows off its protagonist leaping off water, zipping through the air shooting arrows, and visceral combat against mythical foes.

Scars Above

Scars Above is a challenging sci-fi third-person action-adventure shooter combining the rewarding feel of overcoming difficulty with a compelling and intricate story, set in a mysterious alien world to explore.

Gotham Knights

Gotham Knights, which takes place in an alternate timeline to the previous Batman Arkham games, and one where Batman was killed, is looking to be an interesting spin on the lore and familiar gameplay. While we’ve now seen a lot of the game in recent months, a new trailer highlighting the villains has been released, and has got us excited for what’s to come when it launches in October.

The Lords of the Fallen

A rather surprising announcement came in the form of a sequel to Lords of the Fallen. The 2014 Dark Souls-like release went relatively under the radar despite accruing a decent fanbase, and a full-blown sequel is in the works from Hexworks and CI Games.
