Chiefs Vs Pirates – A Worthy Final

This Saturday, Kazier Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will go head-to-head in the MTN 8 Final. Both teams have enjoyed good form leading up to the Wafa Wafa Final but it will definitely be Chiefs who will fancy their chances against their longtime Soweto rivals.

Kazier Chiefs’ Stuart Baxter has racked up six consecutive Absa premiership wins. Orlando Pirates on the other hand are sitting in third place – four points behind Chiefs, where they have drawn two and lost one. However, the league stats will count for nothing on Saturday. It’s do-or-die for South Africa’s most beloved and supported teams. Chiefs have managed nine goals so far and Pirates have scored seven goals respectively, with George Maluleka (Kaizer Chiefs) leading the goal-scoring pack with three goals.

Baxter will surely head into the MTN Final cautious of his fatigued team. He is missing two key players on either end of the pitch. Baxter also resisted the temptation to rest several first-choice players, making just two changes to his outfit, which had previously remained unchanged in five outings.

“Rotation for me is not just taking turns. Rotation is around your opponent, rotation is about retaining some form of consistency,” Baxter said afterwards. Vladimir Vermezovic on the other hand will be resting easy as a few Pirates players passed late fitness tests.

Tickets for the Moses Mabhida clash were sold out in less than four hours. The ticket sales opened at 1pm on Friday and within the first 90 minutes, 30 000 tickets were sold. Make no mistake, this is a colossal clash.
