5 Movies You Can Watch This Weekend
February is finally coming to an end and if you’re looking for a relaxed trip to the cinemas this weekend, and there’s a lot of choice on offer with some big releases launching this Friday, 27 February, so here’s your handy guide on what you should be watching:
Dying of the Light
Nicholas Cage returns to the big-screen in another under-the-radar action flick, where he plays Evan Lake, a veteran CIA agent, has been ordered to retire. But, when his protégé uncovers evidence that Lake’s nemesis, terrorist Banir, has resurfaced, Lake goes rogue, embarking on a perilous intercontinental mission to eliminate his sworn enemy.
The Remaining
If you’ve been lacking some disaster/end-of-the-world movie vibes in your life, The Remaining should fill the gap. The film follows a group of close friends gather for a wedding, but the celebration is shattered by a series of cataclysmic events and enemies foretold by biblical end-times prophecies. The survivors face a horrifying, uncertain future as they scramble for safety, but, as their world collapses around them in chaos and terror, will they choose reassuring fantasy through faith, or just try to survive?
Shaun the Sheep
A lot of Wallace and Gromit fans will also be glad to know that the beloved animated sheep, named Shaun, makes his big-screen debut this weekend. The movie follows Shaun (duh), who decides to take the day off and have some fun, but he gets a little more action than he bargained for. A mix-up between the Farmer, a caravan and a very steep hill lead them all to the Big City, and it’s up to Shaun and the flock to return everyone safely to the green grass of home.
Mortdecai
Juggling some angry Russians, the British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist, debonair art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumoured to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.
The film stars Johnny Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Paul Bettany, Olivia Munn, and Jeff Goldblum.
The Theory of Everything
This is the extraordinary story of one of the world’s greatest living minds, the renowned astrophysicist Stephen Hawking, who falls deeply in love with fellow Cambridge student Jane Wilde. Once a healthy, active young man, Hawking received an earth-shattering diagnosis at 21. With Jane fighting tirelessly by his side, Stephen embarks on his most ambitious scientific work, studying the very thing he now has precious little of—time. Together, they defy impossible odds, breaking new ground in medicine and science, and achieving more than they could ever have dreamed.
