Nike is set to launch its new Nike Mind recovery shoe in January 2026, and the Springboks are the first rugby team in the world to slip their feet into the highly anticipated release.

What is the Nike Mind Mule, though? Well, they’re a neuroscience-based footwear innovation designed to activate sensory awareness and support mental focus before and after competition.

The shoes themselves feature ball-like nubs at the bottom of the shoe, which deliver a sensation to the wearer’s feet when a foot is planted. This helps by engaging the sensory areas of your brain via the thousands of mechanoreceptors underfoot.

There are two models that are being released: the Nike Mind 001 (for pre-game prep and recovery) and the Mind 002 (a daily sneaker that can be worn for more versatile situations).

The Mind 001 mules are priced at $95, and the Mind 002 sneaker at $145. Local pricing is yet to be confirmed, but that would come in at around R1,630 and R2,500 respectively.
