Lenovo Tab P12 Pro Review — The Chromebook Killer?
Could Lenovo’s new tablet be your go-to work tool?
Tablets are becoming serious contenders or alternatives to midrange laptops out there, offering pretty robust experiences that challenge the need for an actual notebook. The Lenovo Tab P12 Pro is an impressive entry that has a lot of bells and whistles to make your work (or play) a whole lot more streamlined, but can it actually slot into your life as a valuable on-the-go option?
From a pure specs perspective, the P12 Pro features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 Processor, which is used in a lot of premium, high-end smartphones. This, along with 6GBs of LPDDR5 RAM gives you a pretty hefty amount of mobile power under the hood, and while it won’t challenge the sleekest and cutting-edge notebooks out there, it’s more than enough to do most writing, browsing, application-based, and email tasks you can think of.

One of the make-or-break elements of any tablet is the display, and the P12 Pro’s 12.6-inch 2K (2560 x 1600) AMOLED, glossy touchscreen is worth the hype. It’s bright and vivid with colour thanks to its 400 nits of brightness, and is extremely responsive to touch, feeling accurate and actually usable for finer and more technical jobs.
Regarding the accuracy of the touch display, Lenovo’s Precision Pen 3 is included with the laptop and quite deeply integrated into the design, signalling that the Chinese company really feels that this tablet will become a daily companion for work.

The Precision Pen 3 is a well-built peripheral that can deliver extremely accurate and legible writing on the tablet with little bleed or delay. One of the most interesting things is where it attaches to the tablet: a magnetic charging pad on the back of the device allows the pen to snap on, which also acts as a bit of a kickstand for the tablet. It’s pretty clever.
With 128GBs of storage, you may also need to utilise cloud-based storage if you’re going to be using pretty sizable files on the tablet, but for most people, it should be enough to do most secondary day-to-day tasks. There is a MicroSD slot to expand the storage volume a little bit too.

There is a also 13MP camera on board (with an 8MP front-facing camera if you want to do some video calling), but this really is a solitary work and media device, and one of the feature highlights is the inclusion of four JBL speakers with Dolby Atmos. For a tablet, the sound is actually notably impressive and will be more than suitable to watch a movie in bed or have a decent listen to a song (if you don’t have headphones, of course).
The P12 Pro can also connect to a compatible keyboard via its connector at the bottom of the display (in landscape mode), making it a really handy device for anyone looking to have something that makes their mobile activities a bit easier.
The Lenovo P12 Pro is priced at R12,499.
