The Cheetahs shocked the star-studded Highlanders team in a 36-19 victory in Invercargill on Saturday, 9 March 2013.

The opening twenty minutes saw both teams meet each physically, with only a Goosen penalty separating the two.

However, the lines were breached when some good hands put big flanker Pieter Labuschagne into some space, who then threw an inside-pass to Sarel Pretorius to race away for the tryline.

The Highlanders, trailing 13-0, hit back when Sopoaga put through a brilliantly-weighted grubber that Poki picked up in the corner.

Despite Sopoaga’s kick paying off, a chip kick in the 29th minute didn’t. Robert Ebersohn charged down the kick and regathered the ball excellently to race 40m to the tryline.

Another opportunistic try came when Sarel Pretorius intercepted a pass and used his pace to get away for his second try.

The Highlanders were looking to be slipping away from the game, but they did manage to fight back with some good handling that put Poki in some space for his second try.

The little winger also picked up his third when he slipped through a mid-field gap, but it wasn’t enough for the Highlanders to challenge the Cheetahs’ score.
