Brumbies defeat Rebels in Melbourne

Brumbies Rebels

The Rebels and Brumbies met at AAMI Stadium in Melbourne, with both teams coming off wins in Round 1, but it was the Brumbies who emerged victorious with a 30-13 win.

The Brumbies’ star player from Round 1, Jessie Mogg, continued his try-scoring form after he put a kick through and chased up excellently to dot down. The conversion was successful from Lealiifano.

James O’Connor opened the scoring for the home team with a successful penalty, and followed it up with some great footwork and passing, which put Scott Higginbotham racing away towards the tryline.

After O’Connor added another penalty (13-7), the Brumbies hit back and Rathbone went in over the corner. Lealiifano failed to add the extra 2, leaving the score 13-12 to the Rebels.

The second half scoring began with a Lealiifano penalty, which put the Brumbies into the lead with 13-15.

Lealiifano added another penalty after some attacking phases from the Brumbies, making the score 18-13.

Captain Ben Mowen then led by example and raced over the tryline following a high ball;  Lealiifano eases over the conversion. 13-25 to the Brumbies.

The Brumbies then rounded off another solid performance with a bonus point try from Robbie Coleman, despite Lealiifano missing the conversion.
