The Barclays English Premier League is the world’s most popular and lucrative league and most of the clubs that participate in the league, like Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, are super-rich as they also attract sponsorship from the biggest of sponsors. Not only is the premier league one of the wealthiest leagues in the world, but it is also a very competitive one at that, where title races usually go down to the wire. This is particularly important because people get to enjoy the league right up to the end unlike some of the other competitions where a club can win up to ten league titles in a row and even win them with ten games to spare. In addition, it is a boon for betting sites in South Africa, as players love to bet on the EPL.
The 2020/21 season was an exciting season that had many twists and turns because several teams were tipped to win the league at some point or another, but in the end, Manchester City proved too strong for the chasing pack. Manchester City had their worst start to the season in years but they managed to turn things around quickly and they went on an impressive unbeaten run which laid the foundation for their title charge. The acquisition of Ruben Dias by Pep Guardiola proved ingenious because, together with Jone Stones, he formed a perfect defensive partnership and he went on to become the Premier League player of the year.
At one point Manchester United, Tottenham, Leicester City were tipped as title favourites but all that quickly disappeared — and that is the beauty about the Premier League as things change quickly. World superstars like Gareth Bale, James Rodriguez, Edison Cavani and Thiago Silva signed up for Premier League clubs and all that made the tournament exciting and soccer fans were given something to cheer them up in the difficult period of the Covid 19 pandemic. Of course, the people could only watch the matches on television or any other digital platforms (save for a few matches towards the end of the season) because Covid 19 regulations did not permit them to do so.
The upcoming Barclays Premier League 2021-22 season begins on Saturday, 14 August 2021, and is set to conclude on Sunday, 22 May 2022, and we are hopeful that there will not be any disruptions that may prolong the season. The upcoming season promises to be yet another great season because teams are busy with transfers and there have already been some exciting transfers already with Jadon Sancho moving back to Manchester, but this time as a Manchester United player. Leicester City has acquired the services of exciting Zambia striker Partson Daka from Red Bull Salzburg. Some of the big names which are linked to the Premier League include Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Mbappe, Haaland and several others and if these players end up in the Premier League in the upcoming season, then we are in for a treat because the competition will be intensified with each superstar wanting to outdo the others.
Coaches have also been on the move and Carlo Ancelloti was resigned by Real Madrid and his replacement is none other than Rafael Benitez, and that is a huge narrative on its own given the fact that Benitez made his name with Liverpool and now he is in charge of their arch-rivals, Everton. Nuno Esperito Santo left Wolves after a successful spell with them and he is now tasked with the job of reinvigorating Spurs to title contenders because, in all honesty, they had lost their identity under ‘The Special One’ Jose Mourinho. Thomas Tuchel, who was hired by Chelsea to replace Lampard towards the end of the season proved to be an inspired choice as he led Chelsea to their second Champions League triumph, but there was little he could do about the league because, by the time he arrived in England, it was almost a ‘Mission Impossible’ for Chelsea to win the league. However, this time around, he has a full season ahead of him and it will be exciting to see how Chelsea will fare.
Who looks set to be in the top 5 based on last season?
The Premier League is a tricky league to call, but it is hard to imagine Manchester City being outside the top five because of the quality of their play and great squad assembled by Pep Guardiola. Manchester United are also an equally talented side and the acquisition of Jadon Sancho and has left many believing that he could be what Manchester United was missing all along, If Man United get Rafael Varane (as is being suggested by the rumours), they will certainly be considered genuine title contenders. Once the league has begun, you will typically find soccer tips for it daily or at least a few times per week.
Chelsea’s performances towards the end of the season especially in the Champions League shows that they are a solid team and they will give it a go next season because when the season ended, we were starting to see the real value of the likes of Havertz and Werner, who were struggling to live up to their billing earlier in the season, but Tuchel is slowly unlocking their full potential. Liverpool and Tottenham were pathetic last season but we are tipping them to bounce back because they are still quality sides,. For Tottenham, however, their success will hugely depend on whether they will be able to keep Harry Kane because he is their talisman.
Who do you think will thrive this coming season?
