The Chiefs’ lackluster start to this year’s Super Rugby tournament in Round 1 gave the Waikato club something to consider heading into the highly-anticipated match-up with the Blues, who narrowly lost out to the Crusaders last week.
The match ended with a 29-14 score line, although the Blues were dead and buried long before the final whistle.
The try proceedings were imitated by prop Sona Taumalolo, who managed to power over the line from a close range pick-and-drive. Aaron Cruden proceeded to round off the points with a solid conversion.
The star-studded Chiefs backline began showing their skills, particularly that of Robbie Robinson, who managed to cut through the Blues defence on a number of occasions, and setting up an impressive try for right-winger Asaeli Tikoirotuma.
Man of the match performer Kerr-Barlow managed to dot down after some great running from winger Tim Nai-Nai William, who also picked up a try for himself.
The Blues bench proved useful as replacement winger Sherwin Stowers scored in the dying minutes, although it was too late for the Auckland side.
