Manchester City has established themselves as firm title favourites for this season’s Premier League title with a few spectacular results in recent weeks. They didn’t dish out another 7-2 thumping like they did last week, but their 3-0 win over Burnley was comfortable and put all the impressive elements of their style on full display again.
One of the key reasons their attack is so lethal this season is because Kevin De Bruyne is able to use his full passing range to find their rapid forwards. In Gabriel Jesus, Aguero, Raheem Sterling, and Leroy Sané he has a set of fast team mates that can select excellent runs to make. They can hit full tilt knowing De Bruyne has the ability to pick them out consistently, and he did so again this weekend to assist the speedy Leroy Sané for their third goal.
The young Belgian has the uncanny ability to spot runs and bend passes in a way not many players can. He manages to curl his pass past the last defender for the oncoming Sané to latch onto, balancing the speed of his pass with the weight necessary for Sané to still be able to meet it with an angle to shoot from.
De Bruyne may have done most of the hard work, but Sané still had a difficult finish to execute from a narrow angle and he managed it brilliantly. His recent performances will beg the question of whether he’s the best creative midfielder playing at the moment, and if he puts together a few more similar displays he might put that question to rest.
