Some tight encounters, brilliant individual performances, and dramatic moments made for an incredibly entertaining weekend of sport. But with so many great highlights, we decided to rank out top 5; so without further ado, here are our picks of the best sporting moments from the past weekend:
Maloney’s magic touch
In the NRL semi-final playoff match, Cronulla Sharks playmaker James Maloney picked off an intercept opportunity and raced away to put the final nail in the coffin of the North Queensland Cowboys.
Ribery turns the defence inside out
Frenchman Franck Ribéry opened the scoring in style for FC Bayern against Hertha in the Bundesliga, showing that even at 33 years old, he’s still got plenty of tricks up his sleeve.
Wasps go the length
Sparked by flyhalf Danny Cipriani, the London Wasps scored a brilliant long-range try that’s sure to be a contender for try of the season, with Jimmy Gopperth the man dotting down the ball on the other side of the field.
Ashley-Cooper’s impressive leap
Wallaby star Adam Ashley-Cooper scored a great try after he leapt in the air to gather a cross kick from Irish flyhalf Ian Madigan for their French club side Bordeaux Begles.
After being 2-0 up before half-time, Arsenal started to showboat remarkably early against Chelsea in their Premier League encounter, and even their third goal had a hint of swagger: a two-man counter-attack that saw both Cahill and Luiz dragged towards Alexis Sanchez, freeing up Mesut Ozil to volley in off the post.
