32 years have passed since 1980. For many, the 80s represent a period of experimentation, reinvention, innovation and in many cases outright insanity. The music from this era is characterized by the inclusion of electronic elements into music with the synthesizer leading fore.
No one can deny that some really terrible music was released during this precarious time in the evolution of music, but for every 20 horrendous tunes, there were 3 or 4 classics – who doesn’t like “Where Is My Mind” by The Pixes, or RUN-DMC’s collaboration with Areosmith on “Walk This Way?”
In memory of all these great tunes, NME.com has presented us with a list of the top 100 songs of the 80s! Click here to see the full list, or if you’re only interested in #1, check out the video above for “Blue Monday” by New Order.
