3 Big Movies Releasing in SA this Weekend

We take a look at the big movie releases hitting cinemas across SA.

October is here, and with it comes some brand-new movie releases for all us South Africans to enjoy. First up this month is a Tim Burton take on a classic story, a tense psychological thriller, and a Woody Allen comedy. Here’s our picks for movies releasing Friday, 7 October:

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

Release date: Friday, 7 October 2016

Tim Burton returns to the director’s chair for an adaptation of the popular children’s book which tells the story of a young boy who finds a home that’s a refuge for unusual and supernatural children. Eva Green, Asa Butterfield, Ella Purnell, Allison Janney, Terence Stamp, Rupert Everett, Judi Dench and Samuel L. Jackson all star, adding some serious star-power to this offbeat fantasy adventure.

The Girl on the Train

Release date: Friday, 7 October 2016

Another big October release is making a leap from the page to the screen. Based on the best-selling Paula Hawkins novel, The Girl on the Train stars Emily Blunt stars as Rachel Watson, an alcoholic woman who becomes fascinated by a couple she sees every day on the train during her daily commute. However, when she witnesses something unexpected, Rachel becomes wrapped up in the mystery herself. Director Tate Taylor has earned praise for his work in films like The Help and Get On Up, and with a cast like Blunt, Rebecca Ferguson, Luke Evans, Haley Bennett and Justin Theroux, The Girl on the Train could definitely be one of the month’s most popular films.

Cafe Society

Release date: Friday, 7 October 2016

American Ultra‘s Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart join Steve Carell in this Woody Allen directed offbeat comedy. Set in the 1930s, Bobby, a young man from the Bronx finds himself in Hollywood with a little help from his powerful uncle Phil, an agent to the likes of Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire. He meets and falls for Vonnie, his uncle’s beautiful secretary, before returning to New York where he immerses himself in the razzle-dazzle of high society night club life.
