DC’s Suicide Squad movie is looking to be quite the big-name spectacle when it lands in theatres next year, but one of the stars has seemingly dropped out of the project.
Tom Hardy, who was set to play the gun-toting Rick Flagg, but the actor has recently backed out due to scheduling conflicts, leaving a gaping hole for another star to step into David Ayer’s super-villain mash-up flick.
In his place? It looks like Jake Gyllenhaal might be signing up, according to the Wrap. Ayer directed Gyllenhaal in the excellent End Of Watch, and Ayer is reportedly after the actor – snubbed by the Oscars in spite of his wonderful work in Nightcrawler – to join Suicide Squad.
His casting has not yet been confirmed. But if Gyllenhaal signs on the dotted line, he’d join a cast that already includes Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis and Cara Delevingne.
Suicide Squad, the second DC film that’s scheduled for 2016 – after Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice – arrives in August 2016.
