The film will start shooting in May with shooting in May, with Roland Emmerich returning to direct. Dean Devlin is returning to produce, and he and Emmerich put together the first draft of the screenplay. It’s subsequently been rewritten by Nicholas Wright and James A Woods, amongst others.
It was revealed earlier in the year that Will Smith was unlikely to return for Independence Day 2, and that remains the case. Unless he changes his mind shortly, the sequel will be pressing ahead without him.
Independence Day 2 is scheduled for release on June 2016. More on the film as we hear it.
