3 Big Movies Releasing In SA This Weekend

Movies this weekend 4 September

Check out what’s hitting South African cinemas this weekend.

As we head into spring and the weather begins to heat up, we get a wealth of big movie releases hitting theatres this weekend. From a video game adaptation and a new reboots, to a heart-wrenching sports dramas – the guys are in for a treat this weekend.

Here are the movies releasing Friday, 4 September 2015:

Hitman: Agent 47

The first Hitman movie starring Timothy Olyphant wasn’t great, but it was far from anything to recommend. Well, director Aleksander Bach has decided to take a new crack at the iconic video game assassin in a new movie that reinvigorates the bald-headed anti-hero on the big-screen.

Hitman: Agent 47 stars Rupert Friend as the barcoded head-basher, along with Zachary Quinto, Hannah Ware, and Thomas Kretschmann also featuring in the cast.

The Transporter: Refueled

No one expected a reboot to the Transporter series, let alone one without Jason Statham behind the wheel. Still, The Transporter: Refueled looks like it could prove to be a worthwhile revisit of the action franchise. This time, Ed Skrein – who’s also set to play Ajax in next year’s Deadpool – plays Frank Martin, a skilled fighter and driver with a very specific set of rules.

Southpaw

Jake Gyllenhaal made a striking transformation in Training Day director Antoine Fuqua’s boxing film Southpaw, which saw the actor train himself in the art of boxing to give a convincing performance as Billy Hope, a prized boxer who goes through personal loss and turmoil and has to face his demons and work his way back to the top.

Alongside Gyllenhaal, Rachel McAdams, Forest Whitaker and Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson are among the supporting cast.
