Struggling with dry, frizzy, or unruly hair? Your mop is probably in need of some serious TLC but building a great bromance with your hair is going to take more than just a hair mask once a week. If you want healthy, happy hair all year long you’ve got to show it a little tenderness. Not sure how? We’ve teamed up Legacy Lifestyle and Paul James Hairdressing to share these 4 professional secrets to healthy hair.
Get the right tools
If you’ve been using the same old, el-cheapo hair drier for years it’s time to think about upgrading. You wouldn’t use a smartphone from 10 years ago so why would you use a flat iron that came out when chatting on MXIT was still a thing? Technology has vastly improved, and new models, like the ghd Air and Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer, can dry hair faster than ever — and the less time under heat, the less your hair is damaged. Consider upgrading your tools to professional-quality ones, especially if you use them on your hair often. The cost might be higher but investing in good quality products and tools will keep hair looking and feeling healthy and strong.
Say goodbye to towels
Rather than rubbing your hair dry with a rough towel, which can cause breakage and frizz, adopt a gentler approach with an old, clean T-shirt. A cotton T-shirt is much gentler on your hair and than a hand towel and it doesn’t rough up the cuticle as much, so you don’t have to work as hard to smooth the hair and make it look healthy.
Don’t over-wash your hair
Loads of men make the mistake of washing their hair often, like every day. Save yourself the time and effort by limiting washing to twice or thrice a week and always condition your hair. Overwashing will result in your stripping away all the great natural, and essential, oils that your hair creates all on its own resulting in dry, lacklustre hair.
Clear things up
If you use any kind of styling product on your hair, over time, the product that you apply on your hair can build up and make your hair look dull and lifeless. To give your hair a fighting chance use a good clarifying shampoo to get rid of the build-up and bring back shine to your hair. Pro tip: You can also use white vinegar for hair rinse as it helps balance the pH levels in your hair. It might sound weird but it really works.
