Within the modern realm of gaming, there’s a huge demand for old-school inspired action adventure games, and a new indie title looks set to deliver exactly that, while being wrapped up in one of the most charming visuals styles you may have ever seen
Secret Legend is the new title from Andrew Shouldice and is somewhat of a love-letter to the original Legend of Zelda. The Canadian developer has been showcasing the game at the PAX West expo, and what’s even more impressive is that Shouldice has been developing the game all on his own.
So what is it? In Secret Legend, you play a “tiny fox in a big world,” who begins the game with little more than his own paws to protect himself. But just like the Zelda games, the ancient-looking ruins surrounding the plucky hero are full of all kinds of treasure chests and pots full of useful items; near the start of the game, the fox has to bash enemies over the head with a stick, but further exploration will yield swords, shields and other handy weapons.
The game also doesn’t rely on XP or levelling up in the more modern sense, and opts rather for equipment scaling, allowing players to base their play-style on what weapons or abilities they find.
Secret Legend looks absolutely spectacular so far, and while there’s no set release date, it is being aimed for launch in 2017 on PC and likely consoles too.
